Eight Creek Pond

Eight Creek Pond is a situated on Eight Creek, a tributary of Elk Creek, located to the northwest of the Town of Doty in Washington State.   The Eight Creek Pond Coho Project began with the conversion of an old beaver pond to a useable site for rearing and conditioning Coho until ready for release as smolts.   The pond also serves as an over-wintering location for small fish during high water events.

Each year local volunteers contribute 800 to 1000 hours of time spent feeding and caring for 100,000 marked Coho salmon.  Upon their release above the Chehalis Indian Reservation, these salmon are counted as part of the 300,000 Coho agreed to in a mitigation agreement between Washington State Fish and Wildlife Service and a power generating plant located on the upper Skookumchuck River.  Project participants are pleased with the success of their project noting hundreds of returning adult fish each year.

Designed and operated by the Upper Chehalis Fisheries Enhancement Association, the project has received funding assistance from the Chehalis Basin Fisheries Task Force.
