2007 Chehalis Watershed Festival Montage

The Chehalis Basin Fisheries Task Force hosted an exhibit booth and kids fishing pond at the October 13, 2007, Chehalis Watershed Festival.  The festival was held at Morrison River Front Park in Aberdeen, WA.  With the help of CBFTF volunteers, the Aberdeen Fire Department, Grays Harbor Chapter Trout Unlimited, Weyerhaeuser, Region 6 WDWF staff and Grays Harbor County, the Task Force presence was a huge success.  Special thanks to Chad Mittleider of the Aberdeen Fire Department for helping to arrange for the crew on duty to fill the fish pond with water, to John Lewis of Grays Harbor Chapter Trout Unlimited for helping with the arrangements to donate the use of their portable fish pond; to the local people with Weyerhaeuser for granting funds toward the purchase of a professional display board; to Ron Warren, Randy Aho and Keith Burns of WDFW for arranging for the availability and delivery of 600, 1 lb. Rainbow Trout; to Lee Napier of Grays Harbor County for providing a tent to cover the fish pond; and to loyal CBFTF volunteers: Herman Ohlde, Joe Durham, Mike Munsell, Lloyd Case, Steve Berggren and Jerrie Johnson who helped prepare for the festival and showed up to promote education and help kids enjoy a day of free fishing fun!

Education & Outreach Goal & Objective:

The CBFTF strives to educate and extend the assistance of the CBFTF by providing information to the public in a way that showcases community partnerships regarding regional fisheries enhancements in the Chehalis Basin. Over the long term (our goal is a minimum of 10 years) this project will provide information to a variety of user groups in various settings to exhibit collaborative on the ground, community based, grass roots efforts for salmonid enhancement in a way that can engage people of all ages. The concept is geared towards connecting people and backgrounds to take personal ownership and responsibility for the Chehalis Basin and its resources.

2007 Accomplishments:  In 2007, employees and volunteers of the Task Force set up exhibit booths at the Grays Harbor County Fair in August, and the Chehalis Watershed Festival in October.  A professional looking CBFTF presence was made possible through a grant from the Weyerhaeuser Foundation.  Weyerhaeuser has been a great partner and supporter to the Task Force for more than two decades.  A proposal for the purchase of a portable presentation board was heard by the local Weyerhaeuser Foundation Committee, who believe in this project and recommended it be funded in the amount of $2,500 in early 2007.
